Demolition Derby - Sunday 3 March
Who will be the last car running?
Australia's best Demolition Derby drivers will do battle to be crowned the 2024 Australian Derby Champion and take home $5000. The chaos and excitement of the Demolition Derby is always a crowd pleaser with this year's event sure to be a hit!!

The City Vs Country Demolition Derby is the single biggest event on the derby calendar and draws the best drivers that New South Wales has to offer. Drivers come from all across New South Wales to represent their chosen team and only one team can walk away with the prize. This event consists of a 10 vs 10 team demolition derby, with the participants selected based on their experience and skill.
**NEW MANDATORY BUILD REQUIREMENT**
A message from head scrutineer/organiser Dave Ryan. For the safety of drivers, all vehicles competing in the Newcastle Show Demolition Derby event will be required to run the pictured QLD style barwork. Based on current information, this will soon be a requirement for all Agricultural Show events to ensure that the events will remain insurable.
BAR WORK – Bars are to be welded together to form a square box from pillar to pillar. NB pipe is to be 40mm inside and usually 50mm outside with a minimum 3mm thickness. Other steel like mild,black or RHS can be used but NO galvanised steel. Minimum 6mm door plate the length of the door to be attached to outside of door bar but not protrude door skin .
Roll bar hoop or floor to roof bar behind drivers seat to be fitted. No rearward bars down to rear wheel arches or parcel shelf.
Further, the event will be limited to the first 30 entrants. In addition to the $5000 1st prize, there will be other cash prizes available, awaiting their allocation.

In the early 1800’s fascination with these creatures found their way to Europe where they slowly increased in number and popularity until the present day.
RATS
Pet rats are domesticated varieties of the brown rat but black rats and giant pouched rats are also known to be kept.. In the early 1900’s the standards by which the showing of rats could be judged was introduced by the National Fancy Rat Society of Great Britain.
Over the past 20 years, there has been a large increase in the showing of fancy mice and rats.

Rural Achiever Award
Dare to stand out?
The Varley Rural Achiever Award at the Newcastle Show is designed to recognise future young leaders (20 to up to 29 years of age) who are working hard to make a significant contribution to their community and to rural Australia.
The program promotes and facilitates unique agricultural industry networking opportunities with rural leaders and other like-minded individuals through participation in the Newcastle Show. This heightens the opportunity for the recipients to become future leaders in primary industry or the rural community.
*NB: this is not a formal feeder program for the RAS Rural Achiever in Sydney. Successful applicants are encouraged to apply following the conclusion of the Newcastle Show Rural Achiever.
The program promotes and facilitates unique agricultural industry networking opportunities with rural leaders and other like-minded individuals through participation in the Newcastle Show. Wood chop and Fence Post Splitting
Rumour has it the first ever wood chopping competition was held between two axemen in Tasmania in 1870, betting on who could first fell a tree. Since then it has grown into a very popular physical sport around the country and of course is a great draw card to the Newcastle Show.
